Review: Benefit Rockateur Blush

There’s absolutely no question about it– the first time I saw images of this new Rockateur blush before it was even released, I knew I had to have it.

You can see the packaging is identical to the other Benefit box blushes, what’s been upgraded for this release is the brush. I tested it out a bit, and it actually worked pretty well to apply the blush and blend it in.

Another thing that sets this release apart from the other Benefit blushes, besides the absolutely stunning color, is the design in the blush itself. It’s pretty cool and follows the whole “Rockateur” theme.

Just look at that color!

*Note that the gold sheen you see is just an over-spray and disappears after the first use*

The blush is not the most-pigmented I’ve ever used, which might be considered a negative by some but I personally prefer that because it’s much easier to build up a product than it is to blend it out when you’ve put on too much. The color is a beautiful rose-gold which makes it super versatile in that it will look great on both warm and cool toned ladies– so this really is a blush that will look flattering on everyone!

Once applied, it’s got a nice sheen without any trace of chunky glitter that gives a nice healthy glow and looks very pretty and natural! This is quickly rising to the top spot in my blush collection and I’ve been using it every day since I got it.

With all that being said, I really love this blush… but I feel like I have to include a pretty big negative that thankfully doesn’t have anything to do with the product itself. Unfortunately, this blush only has .17 oz of product where the other Benefit blushers have between .25 oz to .32 oz product— and they’re all the same price at $28! Now that’s a lot to pay for getting about half the product that are in the other blushers! I don’t know what Benefit were thinking, but it’s not something that has gone down well with a lot of people who bought this product.

Here’s a direct quote from the Benefit website regarding this: “Rockateur has a specialized formula that works by combining the best features of baked, powder, cream and fluid textures to give a brighter, purer color pay off creating 1.6 times the amount of pure color payoff.  This results in the usage rate of Rockatuer to be an exact match to our other Box o’ Powders.”

That’s quite a statement, though I’m not sure what means of testing they used to determine that it would have the exact usage rate of their other blushes. I hope by the time I finish this product, there will be a little more conclusive data to support Benefit’s claims. Then I will have no problem whatsoever repurchasing my new favorite blush!

Have you tried this stunner? What’s your favorite blush?

  1. Great review x, can I ask how do you get to do these reviews, as I wuld love to do some reviews myself, do you get samples given to you for free? or do I have this totally wrong? x

    • Thanks! No, everything you see me talk about on here is 100% purchased with my own money (that’s why I’m currently on a spending ban :P). I like to review makeup/skincare items because it might help any one out there reading my blog know if something is worth buying or not. Reading reviews on anything I buy is one of my favorite parts of shopping– with the millions of items out there, I’ll take any help I can get! x

  2. Hey I recently got the blush in Hervana and I love it! It does seem crap that you got half the product for same amount of money but if it lasts you a long time it will be totally worth it 🙂

    • You definitely do! It’s not matte, it has a nice beautiful sheen that does make you look like you’re glowing. It’s not over the top though, it’s very subtle. x
