I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! I personally had a nice time with my friends, but I honestly cannot believe it’s 2o15! It seems like time is just zooming by, and last year definitely has gone by the fastest yet. It was an excellent year of beauty discoveries for me. The year-end favorites are one of my favorite posts to write and read, so I was almost giddy going through and selecting what I loved most in 2014. Some of these products are new releases from 2014 and some are just products that aren’t new but that were new to me. Grab yourself a drink and a snack, because this post is going to be a long one!
BB Cream– I have fallen in love with the Tarte BB Primer in Light. I actually just picked up my 3rd small tube of this stuff (I worked it out that it’s more cost-effective to by the small tubes than the big size) and I really can’t imagine not having it on hand. I use it pretty much every day as it gives a good base and really does a nice job of giving a little color and evening out my skin tone without looking like I’m wearing makeup at all.
Foundation– There’s only one foundation I’ve been reaching for for the past 6 months, and it’s my NARS Sheer Glow in Deauville. This stuff is just amazing. It’s a medium to full coverage foundation that never gets cakey and leave my skin looking flawless and glowy.
Powder– On top of the Tarte BB Primer, I’ve been using the Tarte Mineralize Powder Foundation with the Real Techniques Duo Fiber Face Brush for just a little added coverage, to set everything in place, and to make sure I don’t get shiny.
Concealer– I’ve pretty much used the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla exclusively since I got it back in March. As the name would suggestion, it’s creamy, super pigmented, blends in like a dream, and is great for both spots and under eye bags.
Corrector– I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque everyday since I got it. It’s really creamy, blends in super well, and does an excellent job of neutralizing or correcting my under eye area. No matter how much sleep I get, I always have under eye bags, so this is a must for me.
Bronzer– I’ve only had The Body Shop Honey Bronzer 02 Fair Matte in my life since October, but I can easily say it’s my favorite. It’s a lovely subtle matte bronze, that gives the right amount of color and never makes me look like an Oompa Loompa.
Blush– If you’ve been with me for a while, then you know how much I loved the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. You’ll also know how excited I was when I got my hands on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion (review and swatch here). When the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette was released, it solidified this blush formula as my favorite of all time. They are again, subtle, luminous, and seem to just melt into your skin. I love love love them.
Lipgloss– I love love love the NYX Butter Glosses! They are smooth, creamy, and wonderful. I also loved the Maybelline Color Elixer (review & swatches here) and the Maybelline Color Senational Lip Gloss (review & swatches here).
Lip balm– It’s got to be the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm, hands down. I’ve spoken about this one several times, just recently in my Travel Essentials post here. It’s amazing because it’s super moisturizing and is still on my lips in the morning when I wake up. Enough said?
Eyeshadow Palette– Besides my NAKED Basics palette, the Lorac Pro Palette was my favorite since I got my hands on it. It’s half matte, half shimmer, and has everything you need basically ever. The shadows are like velvet, extremely pigmented, and blend amazingly.
Eyeshadow Stick– The byTerry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock was a purchase enabled by the lovely Tanya Burr. Do you know what I’m talking about? If you’ve watch her on YouTube then you’ll most-likely have seen her wearing it too, and it looked so gorgeous on her, I just couldn’t resist. Yes, it’s pricey and probably the most expensive single eye shadow I’ve ever bought, but what made me pull the trigger on it was that I found it for 20% off. Everything is always better on sale, right? This could not be easier to use– you just swipe it on and blend out the edges. Done. It’s a beautiful pinky purple shade with tiny bits of glitter in that aren’t too much. The formula is creamy, blendable, and with a primer, doesn’t budge one bit. If you’re interested in this product, but can’t justify the cost, don’t worry, I think I found a more affordable dupe! Stay tuned for that.
Brows– I put the Benefit Gimme Brow as my favorite last year, and while I still love that one, the Anastasia Brow Wiz in medium brown has taken over the top spot this year. I’ve mentioned it quite a bit since I got my hands on it, but I love it because it has a super fine tip that allows you to get realistically defined brows. It’s super easy to use, is a great color, and has an amazing spoolie.
Cleanser– I used to use the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash ages and ages and ages ago, but I didn’t fall in love with it until I picked up this pink grapefruit one. I don’t know what it is, but my skin just loves something about this stuff. It’s got a great fresh pink grapefruit fragrance, lathers really nicely, and the gel is a great match for my oily-combo skin. Out of all the high-end and drugstore cleansers I tried out this year, this one was my absolute favorite.
Toner– I didn’t start using toners again until this year and I’m so happy I reintroduced them to my skincare routine. I did a recent post about all the toners I like to have on hand and why, which you can find here if you’re interested. The Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner is quickly becoming my favorite out of the bunch because it’s made such a noticeable difference to my skin. I’ve had less breakouts and it’s helped quickly reduce any hyper-pigmentation left over from the rare breakout that does pop up. I know it works well for my skin type, but it may be too harsh if you have sensitive skin.
Day Moisturizer– The Origins A Perfect World moisturizer has SPF 25 and is an “age defense moisturizer.” Now believe me, I’m all for preventing the signs of aging, and I like this so much is because it has White Tea and a ton of other antioxidants that help do that. It’s really good and it’s been my favorite day time moisturizer I’ve found yet.
Night Moisturizer– Again, if you’ve been with me for a while, you’ll know how obsessed I am with the Origins Make A Difference + Line. I think I’ve tried every single product from the line and while I still love the original Make A Difference + Rejuvenating Treatment (review here), the Make A Difference Night was definitely my favorite from 2014. It has the same great properties and gel feel of the treatment, but it has added ingredients that help lock in moisture and aid our skins natural turn over at night. I’m almost finished with my first tub of this, and I’ll definitely be repurchasing it soon so I don’t run out.
Face Mask– What can I say? I just haven’t found anything yet that tops the GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment (review here) yet. It’s been my favorite since I purchased it in early 2013, and I still love it just as much as I did then. It’s a wonderful detox mask that dries down and pulls out all the nasty stuff in your pores, leaving your skin looking clearer, brighter, and also reduces the appearance of your pores. It’s a little tub of magic, I swear.
Oil– I’ve tried a few new ones, but I always come back to the Josie Maran Argan Oil Light (review here). I like it because it’s great for everything– I use it on my face, cuticles, elbows, and the ends of my hair. It has Vitamin E and other fatty acids that help to moisturize and condition.
Brush– The Tangle Teezer is amazing. I had never had tangled hair in my life until we moved to the Dominican Republic. We have hard water here, and even though we have a shower head filter, it still leaves my hair a big tangled mess that would take ages to brush through after a shower. With the Tangle Teezer, it only takes a minute to brush through my hair now– it’s seriously the only brush I have or want. If your hair gets tangled after washing it, give this a try. Sorry if this sounded a bit infomercially, but I seriously love it that much!
Dry Shampoo– I used to wash my hair every single day. I knew I shouldn’t, but I couldn’t help it! I really don’t like my second-day hair, the roots look and feel greasy. 2014 was the year I finally tried dry shampoo and I honestly don’t know what took me so long. I’ve tried a few and this one by Batiste is definitely my favorite. It doesn’t leave a ton of chalky residue, is easy to rub in, and makes my greasy second-day look awesome! I also use it on freshly washed hair to give it some added texture and grit.
Perfume– This NEST Midnight Fleur rollerball is possibly my new favorite fragrance. I still love Stella course, but this one is rich and sultry, I just can’t get enough of it!
Nail Polish Remover– OK, so this is kind of boring, but I never tried one of these sponge tub things. This one by Cutex is really good, but I can’t say it’s the best because I haven’t tried any others like this. It’s super easy to use and it makes taking of nail polish a much easier and faster task.
Have you tried any of these?
If you made it to the end, thanks for reading! Here’s to a wonderful 2015!!
