No Me Gusta – Disappointing Products #2

Disappointing Products

Today’s post is all about disappointing products. I usually try to keep things pretty positive on my little blog, but felt it was necessary to be honest about what I haven’t been loving lately. Just in case you’re like me and like to know the good, bad, and ugly about a product before spending your hard earned pennies on it, here’s why these just didn’t do it for me.

1. Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes – I really wanted to like these, but there’s something in here that stings my face and makes it turn red. I don’t have the slightest idea what it is and I certainly wasn’t expecting that to happen considering these have 98% natural ingredients. They might work for you, but they certainly didn’t work out for me.

2. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bellissima – I tried and tried to make this one work, but I just couldn’t. I tried painting it on and keeping my mouth taut for a few minutes so it would dry and set, but it only just ended up staying sticky and settling into the lines on my lips. I tried applying it and then patting it in with my fingers– didn’t work either. Basically it doesn’t dry quick enough, so when you move your lips or pucker them together, it would pull off bits of it and end up turning into a patchy mess. Maybe there is a way to work with this, but I don’t have the time or patience. Boo.

3. They’re Real Push Up Liner – I knew I was taking on chance on this one, but since about half the people who tried it LOVED it, maybe I could too. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I found the formula heavy and on the dry side. It took ages to get the product to come out and then once it did, it was hard to get it as precise as I wanted and bits ended up in clumps all over. I think the tip on this is genius and if they can work on the formula so it’s not so dry, flaky, and heavy, this could be amazing. I’m glad I only went with the mini.

4. Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten and Bronze – OK, I know Stila products make up half of this post, so I feel like I need to say that I love Stila. I have the In The Light Palette, which is one of my favorites… and I have a few of the Convertable Colors, which are really great too. There was just something about these few products that were a real let down and inconsistent with how I usually think of the quality of the brand. So what was wrong with these? They were dry,  impossible to apply evenly, and forget about blending– these just simply failed at what they’re supposed to do.

As with anything, we all have different skin types and preferences, so even though these products didn’t work for me, they may work for you.

Have you tried any of these? What did you think?

xo, Deb

    • No problem! Yeah, I think you’re right about the They’re Real liner. I really really wanted to love it, but maybe they’re reformulate it based on their customers feedback? That would be nice 🙂 x

  2. Awe, I haven’t noticed that about the Yes to Cucumber wipes 😦 Maybe very slightly if so. Def stay away from their pink Grapefruit ones! Those burn so bad! You know… you might really like the Acure Unscented Argan oil ones… they have them at Target now 🙂

    • Oh awesome, thanks for the recommendation Kaily!! I’ll add them to my list for when I head back to the States. How great is Target? Sometimes I dream I’m shopping there 😛 x

      • LOL Target is not great, Target is a money pit, bahahaha. I don’t even allow myself to buy groceries there anymore because I end up with stuff for the house, and clothes, and makeup and God knows what else!

      • Haha, I know what you mean, but honestly that’s what I love about it! I could wander around Target for ages and be so happy AND I never get bored because of the variety. With that being said, I know my bank balance is much much happier I can only shop there once a year now 😀 x

      • LOL. Do you have family here!? Or do you just visit for fun? Maybe I take it for granted since I live in the US, but I’ve never understood why people would want to come visit here. There is so much history in other countries!

      • I’m from the US and currently living in the Dominican Republic. So yes, we come home usually once a year, to visit friends/family and to attend an art gallery exhibit in NYC that we take part in. I’ve had the opportunity to travel to 11 different countries and it’s a wonderful thing to experience other countries and cultures. The States history isn’t quite as old as some other countries, but I can see why people would want to experience it. I actually hope to visit more in the mid-west and west of the US. Where do you live?

      • That’s actually really awesome 🙂 I’m sure you miss your family but what a great lot of experiences! I live in Florida. I guess it’s easy to take for granted what you have 🙂 But I’ve never been out of the US and pretty much EVERYWHERE is on my “to visit” list, lol.

  3. Yes, I agree about Benefit’s push up liner. I loved the tip and the formula when it worked but I couldn’t get it to consistently dispense the liner. Thanks for the heads up on the other products too!

  4. Ah I’m glad to see I’m not the only one whose face stings from the Yes to Cucumbers wipes! I said the same thing in my post about the Ole Henriksen ones. I’d recommend trying them even though they’re not as cheap!

  5. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t LOVE the push up liner. I thought it was terrible. 😝
Thanks for sharing your didn’t-work-for-me items. It’s helpful to make informed decisions. These look like really nice products. Too bad they didn’t work out.
